For a document whose training is a quiz, QTRACA can draft the quiz from the document’s own content. You choose how many questions, the mix of difficulty and whether to include scenarios; the AI writes questions with an answer key, a short explanation and the section each comes from; and you review and edit them before saving. The quiz becomes a training course linked to the document, which trainees take when they are assigned the document.
Over time the generator also learns from your company: how your reviewers change its questions, and how hard your trainees actually find them.
Where to find it: Documentation > Managed Documents, open the document, Training Configuration tab, Quiz Assessment section, then Generate Quiz with AI (or Regenerate Quiz when the document already has a quiz).
Needs AI enabled on your account with allowance remaining. Without it, clicking the button shows an upgrade or allowance message instead of the generator.
Concepts
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Linked quiz | The quiz course created for the document, named after it (for example Allergen Control Procedure Quiz). It appears under Training > Courses like any quiz course. |
| Source version | The document version the quiz was created from. |
| Reviewer edits | What reviewers did to each generated question when saving: kept it as written, or edited it (including relabelling its difficulty). |
| Measured difficulty | How hard trainees found a question, from their answers. See Building a Quiz. |
Quick start
- On a document that is being edited, set Training Type to Quiz Assessment on the Training Configuration tab, and make sure the document has content and has been saved.
- Click Generate Quiz with AI and set the options.
- Click Generate Quiz and wait for the questions.
- Read the list, then click Use This Quiz (or Regenerate for a fresh set).
- Review every question in the Quiz Editor: edit, delete or Regenerate what is wrong, then click Save Quiz.
The Quiz Assessment section

The section appears only when Training Type is Quiz Assessment. The button is disabled until the document is saved and has content, because content is what the questions are written from. When a quiz exists the section shows Quiz linked (v…) and a Linked Training card with the quiz name, Created from v…, View Training to open the course, and the trainees assigned the document with their scores. A Not active badge appears if the quiz course is not active, because trainees are only given an active quiz.
Allergen Control Procedure above is published, so the button is disabled and the section says why: “This document is published, so its quiz cannot be generated or replaced. Create a New Version to change it, or edit the quiz’s questions from View Training.”
Generation options

| Option | Notes |
|---|---|
| Number of Questions | From 5 to 20; starts at 10. The dialog suggests 10–15 for a thorough assessment. |
| Difficulty Distribution | “Set Easy and Medium; Hard is the remainder, so the three total 100%.” Starts at 30 / 50 / 20. The Hard slider is greyed out and labelled The rest; if Easy and Medium add up to more than 100, Medium is reduced. |
| Include Scenario-Based Questions | On by default. Scenario questions put the knowledge into a real situation (“A chiller reads 9°C… what do you do first?”). |
| Focus Areas (Optional) | A comma-separated list of topics to emphasise, such as “Storage, Changeovers”. |
All four options are sent to the generator and used.
Generating and reviewing
Click Generate Quiz. Generation runs in the background and usually takes under a minute; the dialog shows Generating Quiz Questions... with a progress bar and checks every few seconds. You can close it with Cancel.

When it finishes, “Generated N quiz questions successfully!” appears and the dialog lists them with their number, difficulty, type and Source section.

- Regenerate throws the set away and generates a new one with the same options.
- Use This Quiz opens the questions in the Quiz Editor. Nothing is saved yet.
The Quiz Editor

The editor works like a course’s Quiz tab: Edit a question in place (text, type, difficulty, options and correct answer, explanation, source section), delete it, drag to reorder, Add Question of your own, and step through it in Preview Mode. See Building a Quiz for the fields. Each question also has Regenerate — see Regenerating one question.
Check every question against the document. The AI writes from the text it is given, so a question can be correct to the words but miss what matters on your floor. Fix the answer key where needed and delete anything you would not want a trainee marked on.
Click Save Quiz. “Quiz saved with 7 questions. The training record has been created and linked to this document.” confirms it. Closing the editor without saving asks “You have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to close?”.
What saving does
- The first save creates the linked quiz course, <document title> Quiz, and makes it Active, so trainees assigned the document have a quiz to take.
- Saving again (after regenerating) replaces the questions on the same linked quiz and keeps its status, so a live quiz stays live.
- The document’s Passing Score is the pass mark for this quiz. Set it on the Training Configuration tab.
- Your verdict on each generated question is recorded for the generator to learn from (below).
The quiz is locked with the rest of the training configuration once the document is published. Generating and saving are available while the document is being edited or awaiting approval. To replace a published document’s quiz, start a New Version. To correct wording on a live quiz without a new version, edit its questions on the course’s Quiz tab (View Training).
Regenerating one question
Regenerate on a question in the Quiz Editor asks the AI for one new question in its place, at the same difficulty and type and from the same source section. The button shows Regenerating... while it works, and the other questions are left alone. “Question regenerated successfully” confirms the replacement.

Each regeneration uses AI allowance. To get a completely different set instead, use Regenerate in the generator before opening the editor.
When the document changes: the out-of-date warning
When a document moves on to a version its quiz was not created from or reviewed for, the Quiz Assessment section warns:
Source document updated! The quiz was created from version X, but the document is now at version Y.
It offers two ways to clear it:
| Button | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Mark as Reviewed for vY | You have checked the quiz against the new version and it still fits. The quiz is recorded as reviewed for that version and the warning goes. This works on a published document. |
| Regenerate Quiz | The changes affect what the quiz should test. Generate and save a new set. Available while the document is being edited; on a published document the button is disabled. |
The warning appears for any quiz on the document, including one still at Created. Publishing moves a document to a new major version; a quiz that was current before publishing is updated to match, so an ordinary publish does not raise the warning, but a quiz that was already out of date keeps warning after the new version goes live.
How the generator learns from your company
Each generation includes guidance built from this company’s own history — never another company’s:
| Source | What it teaches |
|---|---|
| Reviewer edits | Recorded when a generated quiz is saved: which questions were kept as written, edited, deleted, or added by the reviewer. A question replaced with Regenerate counts as rejected, and its replacement is not counted as the reviewer’s work. Deletion rates by question type, relabelling patterns (for example reviewers repeatedly moving “easy” questions to “medium”) and a few examples of rewritten and deleted questions are passed on, so the next quiz is closer to what your reviewers keep. This starts once at least 10 generated questions have been reviewed in the last 12 months. |
| Measured difficulty | From trainees’ answers on your recent quizzes, course quizzes included. Questions whose label disagrees with how trainees performed are passed on as examples, so the generator stops calling a question most people fail “easy”. |
Until there is enough history, the generator works from the document and your options alone. The guidance is capped in length, since it is sent with every generation.
Availability and permissions
- Needs Document Management, AI enabled on the account, and AI allowance remaining. Each generation uses allowance.
- Generating and saving need the Admin, QA Manager or Document Manager role, or to be the document’s author, and the document must be in editing or awaiting approval.
- Editing the linked quiz on its course’s Quiz tab needs Admin or Training Coordinator.
Things to know
- Regenerating starts measured difficulty again. A regenerated set is new questions, so trainees’ earlier answers no longer attach to them. Keep a quiz that is working and edit it rather than regenerating it.
- Review is not optional in practice. Trainees are marked against the answer key you save; the AI’s key is a draft.
- Question types are Multiple Choice, True/False and Scenario, each with one correct answer.
- A document with no text content cannot be used. The button stays disabled until the document has content and is saved.
- For the document’s other training settings, see Configuring Training Requirements for Documents. For what trainees see, see Taking a Quiz.
