A quiz course checks understanding with multiple-choice, true/false and scenario questions. You write the questions and mark the correct answers on the course’s Quiz tab. Trainees answer in the Training Centre, their answers are marked on the server, and once enough people have answered, each question shows how hard trainees actually found it — so you can see when a question labelled medium is catching most people out.
Where to find it: Training > Courses, open a course whose Type is Quiz, then the Quiz tab.
Concepts
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Question type | Multiple Choice, True/False or Scenario (a multiple-choice question set in a real situation). |
| Answer key | The one correct option for each question, shown highlighted green on the Quiz tab. It stays on the server; trainees never receive it. |
| Difficulty label | Easy, Medium or Hard — what the author thinks. Trainees do not see it. |
| Measured difficulty | How hard trainees actually found the question, worked out from their answers once it has enough attempts. |
| Score | The percentage of questions a trainee answered correctly. |
Quick start
- Create a course with Type Quiz and save it (see Creating a Training Course).
- Open the Quiz tab and click Add Question. A new question opens ready to edit.
- Type the question, choose the Type and Difficulty, fill in the options and select the radio button beside the correct one.
- Click Save Changes. The quiz saves immediately and Quiz updated successfully confirms it. Until then the new question is not saved, and Cancel removes it.
- Repeat for each question, then drag them into order. Use Preview Mode to step through the quiz as a trainee would.
The Quiz tab

Each question card shows its number, difficulty label, type and (once trainees have answered) the measured difficulty, then the options with the correct answer highlighted green and a tick. Edit opens the question in place; the bin icon deletes it after “Are you sure you want to delete this question?”. Drag the handle on the left of a card to reorder.
Writing and editing a question

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Question Text | What the trainee is asked. |
| Type | Multiple Choice, True/False or Scenario. True/False replaces the options with True and False buttons for the correct answer. |
| Difficulty | Your label: Easy, Medium or Hard. |
| Answer Options | Between 2 and 6 options. The radio button marks the correct one — exactly one per question. Add Option is disabled at six; the remove button is disabled at two. |
| Explanation | Why the answer is right. Shown to staff on the Quiz tab. |
| Source Section | The part of the material the question comes from. |
Save Changes saves the whole quiz straight away; Cancel discards the edit, and on a question just added with Add Question it removes the question. Reordering, deleting and relabelling also save at once — there is no separate save button for the quiz.
How a quiz is marked
- Every question is worth the same. The score is the percentage answered correctly, rounded down.
- Marking happens on the server against the answer key. The trainee’s browser never has the correct answers, so they cannot be read from the page.
- A course quiz has no pass mark. Completing it records the score and completes the course, whatever the score. Use the score column on the Trainees tab, and the Analysis tab, to follow up low scores.
- A document quiz is different: it has a Passing Score set on the document, a trainee below it has failed, and a failed attempt can be retaken. See Configuring Training Requirements for Documents.
Measured difficulty
Once trainees have answered, a badge beside each question shows how it performs:

| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| N attempts so far | The question has fewer than 5 attempts. Difficulty is not measured yet, because one unlucky trainee would decide it. |
| Trainees: Easy (N% wrong) | 5 or more attempts, and 20% or fewer answered it wrongly. |
| Trainees: Medium (N% wrong) | More than 20% and up to 50% answered wrongly. |
| Trainees: Hard (N% wrong) | More than 50% answered wrongly. |
The badge is green when it agrees with your label and red when it does not. When they disagree a Label as … link appears; clicking it changes the label to the measured difficulty and saves. On Food Safety Fundamentals, the chiller question is labelled Medium but 67% of trainees get it wrong, so it shows Trainees: Hard (67% wrong) and Label as hard.
A question that is much harder than intended is worth a second look before you relabel it: a high wrong rate can mean the wording is ambiguous, or that the topic needs more time in training. Attempts count both course quiz completions and, for a quiz linked to a managed document, document quiz attempts.
Labels matter beyond this screen. The AI quiz generator reads this company’s measured difficulty so that its future “easy” questions match what your trainees find easy. See AI-Powered Quiz Generation.
Editing a quiz people have already taken
Saving keeps every question’s and option’s identity, even when you reword it, reorder the quiz or add questions. That is deliberate: trainees’ recorded answers point at those identities, so they stay attached to the right question, and the measured difficulty carries on accumulating instead of starting again.
- Fixing a typo or tightening wording is safe.
- If you change what a question asks, delete it and add a new one. Otherwise its measured difficulty mixes answers to the old question with the new.
- Changing the correct answer does not re-mark attempts already completed. Their scores stay as recorded.
Availability and permissions
- Part of the Training module.
- Editing questions needs the Admin or Training Coordinator role. Other users who can open the course see the questions and answer key read-only.
- A quiz generated from a managed document is also an ordinary quiz course, and its questions can be edited here too.
Things to know
- One new question at a time. A question added with Add Question stays unsaved until you click Save Changes; clicking Add Question again before then discards it.
- One correct answer per question. There is no “select all that apply”.
- Difficulty labels are for authors. Trainees see only the questions and options.
- No retakes on a course quiz. Once completed, the attempt stands. To have someone take it again, assign the course to them again.
